Repairing Vinyl Flooring
When you repair vinyl flooring, it is always important to make sure you only use the adhesive which is specified by the manufacturer. If the flooring is old, you may not know which adhesive should be used. In a situation like this, you will want to go to an expert who specializes in flooring materials to find out which adhesive is best. You will need to bring a sample of the floor with you. It is also important to have information about the type of subfloor you use. If there are bumps in the floor, you will need to take a piece of wood and place it over the bumb. Once you've done this, you will want to strike it lightly with a hammer. Doing this should allow you to flatten the bump. If this technique doesn't work, you will need to remove the floor cover. Doing this will allow you to work on the subfloor. You may need to remove any nails or screws that might be present. If the vinyl floor is old, there may not be any good matching materials available on the market. In a situation like this, the entire cover may simply need to be removed and replaced. If a tile is out of place, you can correct it by warming the tile with a iron or torch until it starts to curl. You will want to heat the corner if you want to glue the tile. You will first need to pull it up and remove the old adhesive before you add a new coat. If you are using an iron or torch to warm the tiles, you will want to be careful to make sure you don't accidently burn yourself. You will want to use a trowel to place the adhesive onto the subfloor. Once you've done this, you can push down on the tile and get it to stick. If there is any additional adhesive left over, you will want to remove it. If the surface of your vinyl floor has tears or scratches, you will want to prepare it before you can add you can cover it with a new patch. You can also use paint to create a pattern which matches that of your floor. Doing this can be tricky, and you want to make sure you don't make any mistakes. If a spot on the floor is damaged, you may want to use tape in order to cover it. After this you will want to take your utility knife and slice any fragments. The area should also be free of dirt and dust. It can be cleaned with a wet cloth. Once you have sectioned off the area where the damage occured, you can mix your paint together to match that of the floor. Once this has been done, you can use the paint to paint over the portion of the surface that has been damaged. Painting the surface should allow it to blend in with the rest of the floor. This technique is best used with scratches, small tears, or stains. |
