How To Install Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl floors have properties which make them excellent to use in places like your bathroom, kitchen, and garage. If you have the time, installing vinyl floors is a simple process. There are a number of guidelines you will want to follow which can help you install vinyl floors. The first thing you will want to do is roll out the vinyl sheet on the surface where you will be adding it. This should be a place which matches the length and width of the cover. Once you have rolled out the sheet, you will next want to place it in the direction of the area it will cover. You will now want to use a tape measure to find the dimensions of the sheet. Important points should be marked with a nonpermanent marker. It may also be a good idea to leave an extra inch and then cut it to make sure it precisely matches the length and width of the space. Once you have made your mesurements, review them to make sure they are as accurate as possible. Once you have confirmed that your measurements are correct, you will now want to slice the vinyl sheet into the shape of the floor. It is best to use a flooring knife for this, and you will want to take your time and be careful. While small errors can be corrected, a major mistake can destroy the look of the vinyl sheet, and this is something you don't want. Once you have correctly cut the vinyl sheet into the shape of the floor, you will next want to use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe off the markings you made with the nonpermanent marker. You will now want to roll the vinyl back up again, and the back of it should be clean. You will next want to take the roll and haul it to the next room you want to use it in. It is best not to throw the roll away if you have any parts left over. It can be used in the future if you need to make repairs to the floor. It is also important to note that flooring knives can easily cut you, so you will want to direct them away from your hands when you are cutting the sheet. The next thing you will need to do is glue down the sheets. Before you do this, vacuum the floor to make sure it is free of dust. You will need to lift up one side of the sheet from the floor and pull it towards the center. The other side of the sheet should be laying flat on the floor. Once you do this, you will need to open up a can of floor epoxy. You will want to begin spraying below the sheet you are holding up. You will want to spray the epoxy about a foot in length. You will want to start at the center and work your way outward. Once this is done you will want to slowly press the sheet to the floor, and then repeat the process with the opposite side. |
