Pergo Flooring

Among the myriad brands of laminate flooring, Pergo is probably the most widely recognized. Although one laminate floor is very similar to any other laminate floor, Pergo manages to stay ahead of the pack because of the way it is manufactured.

Layered Manufacture

Pergo is made from a series of layers, which when combined create a top quality floor. Pergo is unique in that it is made from a composite of layers, the bulk of which is a thick water resistant core material. This core is deisnged so that Pergo flooring has a uniform appearance and exact dimensions. The core is covered in a layer of backing paper, which is attached to the bottom of the core layer for further augmentation of stability. This backing paper layer also helps to regulate changes in temperature and humidity levels.

The top of the flooring is covered with the wood-effect laminate, attached to the core material for stability. Although the laminate used in Pergo flooring is in many ways similar to the laminate used in kitchen counters, it does have some differing properties. Pergo laminate is made up from a composite of decorative cellulose paper, resin and a foundational heat resistant base layer. These are bonded together and attached to the central core of the plank. Pergo flooring is then treated with a hardener, which is claimed (by Pergo) to make their flooring up to 25 times harder than the traditional laminates found in kitchen counters.
