How To Clean Pergo Floors


Pergo floors have all the beauty and benefits of hard surface flooring. Dirt and dust do not adhere to Pergo floors easily because its surface layer is hard and compact. It has unsurpassed durability, making Pergo floors perfect for any room in the home but just like other furnishings, Pergo floor also needs proper care and regular maintenance to keep and maintain their appearance and structure.

For general cleaning, simple steps like vacuuming, quick sweeping or damp mopping with the proper hard floor attachment is all you need to keep the Pergo floor clean. For occasional heavier cleaning, a Pergo floor cleaner or a mixture of household vinegar and water (1-cup vinegar to 1-gallon warm water) or even household ammonia and water (1/3 cup ammonia to 1-gallon of warm water) can be used.

There are also some guidelines to remove stain and spot in any Pergo flooring. As for difficult spots such as tars, markers, nail polish and cigarette burns, an acetone or denatured alcohol on a soft cloth can be use to remove them. A pinch of nail polish remover containing acetone is likewise a good substitute. For chocolate, grease, juice, cordials and wine stains, lukewarm water and a non-abrasive cleaner like water and ammonia or Pergo Floor Cleaner can be used.

For candle wax and chewing gum stains, let them harden and carefully scrape using a blunt plastic scraper. For lipstick, crayon, oil, ink and shoe polish stains, denatured alcohol can be used. But please do not apply acetone on Pergo wall base or quarter round.

To remove glue haze in Pergo floor, use a tepid moist fabric to take it out. A Pergo after installation cleaner or an ammonia and water mixture can be also apply with a moist cloth or mop for the remaining traces of glue that was left after the first cleaning. Soaps and detergents can not be used because they may leave a film causing a dull floor. Pergo floors should also never be polished, waxed, sanded or refinished.

While Pergo is remarkably durable, there is of course no such thing as an indestructible flooring material because it is not scratch-proof. However, there are few simple protective measures that are important to keep the floor looking new. To protect the Pergo floor from surface scratches, walk-off mats or rugs can be used inside any exterior doorways to catch small bits of gravel that may stick to shoes. Plastic casters on chairs can be replace with rubber wheels and lift heavy objects rather than slide across the floor. Felt floor protectors can also be used on the legs of sofas, chairs, tables, TV stands, and other easily movable furniture.

In case of minor damage like small chips and dents to a Pergo plank or tile, it can be easily repaired using a Pergo finishing putty. But if the damaged area is bigger than 1/4 of an inch, the Pergo retailer can recommend a professional to change an entire plank or tile.
