How to Clean Hardwood Flooring
Keeping your hardwood flooring doesn't have to be hard work, it can be as easy as you allow it to be. Always make sure to properly care for your hardwood flooring and it should be around for a good 40-50 years. If you can, try finding out if there are any specific care instructions that go with the wood that you have used. The first thing you'll need to do is go out and buy a few items. Vacuuming & SweepingOne item you may want to purchase is a vacuum, if you don't already have one. Yes, you can actually vacuum your hardwood flooring. It is probably better than mopping the floor because it won't damage it and it can suck out all the dirt that a broom or mop might miss. A broom with soft bristles is best on hardwood flooring because it won't scratch the surface of you wood. Use Area CarpetsIt would probably be a good idea to lay a few area carpets in those places that get used the most, the front door, dining room, etc. Kids running in and out can scuff up your nice hardwood flooring and so can a dining room table with chairs. Waxing isn't always necessary but some wood looks great waxed, while others can't be. Find out which one you have and the types of wax that can be used on it. Follow any instructions it may have. Remember, waxing any floors can cause it to become slick, be careful when walking across your floor. Stay Away From WaterNever use water on your hardwood flooring, that is one of the biggest mistakes homeowners make. They decide to mop the floor and actually use water, water only damages and stains your wood. If by some reason you must use water to clean up a mess, make sure to dry it immediately. Don't just air dry it either, it must be dried all the way through or it can damage the wood. Try sticking with a dry mop, such as a dust mop or one of those swifter mops. With proper care for your hardwood flooring you won't be needing to replace it for at least 40 years. Save some money and take care of it. Who knows it may still be around, even after the kids move out. |
