Floating Hardwood Floors
If you are remodeling your home you might be wondering what a floating hardwood floor is. Am I right? A floating hardwood floor is built on top of the regular floor, it doesn't matter what type of floor either. You could've had tile, concrete or a wooden floor and still be able to install this. Lets say you had tile floor but instead wanted a wood floor, this is easy to remedy. The floating floor is built right on top, each piece interlocks with the other. I know, you are thinking that's just to easy. I'd have to hire someone to install my floor. Nope, you can do it yourself. A floating hardwood floor is actually easier to install than anything else, not to mention they don't take as long. Each piece can either be snapped together. Don't forget to glue them as well, this helps in making sure they stay put. You will probably run into one problem in the end where you don't have enough wood or you have too small an area. Go to the store to get more wood if that is the case. If you have one piece of wood left but a small area, simply break the wood in half to fit. Use your hammer to help it fit snug in that spot. Different TypesThere are actually two different types of floating hardwood floor boards that you can get. The engineered flooring is the shorter boards that range to be about 3 - 5 inches wide but only 48 inches long. A Longstrip flooring is larger and comes in feet long instead of inches. With a Longstrip floating hardwood floor you should be able to keep it nice for 40 years or more before having to have it redone. A floating hardwood floor makes installing a floor much easier, no more ripping apart the floor you already have to replace it. Now you can simply build over it and no one will be able to tell the difference. There is one downfall with a floating hardwood floor would be that you may not have every piece of wood going in the same direction. But if you plan ahead you shouldn't have to worry about that. Try measuring your floor first to make sure you'll have enough wood so it goes the same way. A helpful hint, the wider floors are great if you want to add a country look to your home. |
